Rather than eating a simple carb like toast, bagel, cereal or other such simple carbs that are popular breakfast foods, these raw foods really cleanse the pallet, and set your brain up to want to eat better for the rest of the day. They also give you a great energy boost, and don’t result in the crash that the typical carb-y breakfast does. At least that’s how it works for me!
If you need some ideas for eating in this simple, healthful way for breakfast, here are a few that I use myself. Once you get used to eating this way for breakfast, it actually starts to feel strange to go back to a traditional breakfast.
1.) Raw broccoli, sugar snap peas, cherry tomatoes and other raw veggies of your choice dipped in the hummus of your choice. This is an excellent raw, dairy free and gluten free breakfast that is very satisfying and fiber-filled.
2.) A fruit smoothie with greens such as raw broccoli, kale, spinach or other darkly colored greens blended in. Darkly colored berries like blueberries, raspberries and acai berries are rich in antioxidants and you can also add some fat free greek yogurt, or coconut yogurt if you want to go dairy free for added protein. You can also add some flax seed, protein powder of your choice, or some nuts into the mix to add healthy fats as well as filling protein. The possibilities are endless.
3.) Make yourself a nice little “raw salad” with the dressing of your choice and raw veggies of your choice chopped into small pieces. This is an easy one to just refrigerate and throw in your bag in the morning or put in a bowl for a ready made quick breakfast. Some ideas for good veggies are broccoli and cauliflower, peas, carrots, cucumbers, tomatoes and deveined kale chopped into small bits.
