It’s always a great time to revamp your skin care routine! Here is a fantastic multi-purpose recipe that can be used as a facial cleanser, a face mask, a body mask, or a hair conditioning treatment! It is super easy to make and will leave your skin and hair very soft!
Yogurt Cleanser and Mask
– 2 tablespoons Organic Whole Milk (unsweetened) Yogurt or Soy Yogurt
– 1 teaspoon Honey or Agave nectar (organic, if possible):
– 1-2 drops of Essential Oils (organic, if possible)
Mix the Yogurt with the Agave or Honey. Apply to damp skin (face or body) or hair. To cleanse the skin: leave on for just a minute and then rinse well. To use as a face or body mask: leave on for at least 10-15 minutes and then rinse well. If your skin is super sensitive, leave on for only 5 minutes. As a conditioning hair treatment: leave on for 15 minutes to an hour, then rinse well. Follow with your favorite shampoo.
Notes on Usage:
This makes a good amount for several face treatments, or a single hair treatment. Double or triple the recipe if using it as a body treatment, if your hair is really long, or if using it on the face, body, and hair at the same time. Store excess in the fridge (clearly labeled, since it contains essential oils and not all essential oils are edible). Shelf life is an estimated week or two in the fridge.
If you use this daily as a cleanser, cut back on other forms of exfoliation (Yogurt is safe and gentle enough to use daily but mild exfoliants can add up so to prevent over-exfoliation cut back on other forms of exfoliation).
Notes on Ingredients:
Organic whole Milk, unsweetened Yogurt is nutrient rich, and also contains a mild exfoliant (lactic acid). It softens and cleanses the skin, and conditions the hair. Vegans can substitute plain Soy Yogurt.
Honey and agave both contain nutrients, and also softens. Honey is good for blemished skin. Agave is a vegan ingredient.
Essential oil recommendations: lavender essential oil is a great choice for the skin or hair. So is rosemary essential oil (which is especially good for hair). I like using 1 drop of orange essential oil with a drop of vanilla oleoresin or absolute—smells yummy! Less is always best when using essential oils (and also oleoresins, absolutes, and co2 extracts).
Please research essential oils before use, especially if you have medical conditions, are pregnant, or are using them on children, young teens, or elders.
If the cleanser/mask is too runny, add more Yogurt. If you want a thinner/runnier texture, add more Honey or Agave, or add a little distilled or spring Water. I do not recommend adding more than a couple drops of Essential Oil though (since too much can irritate or cause sensitivity, etc).
