Beautiful Living: Dial It Back to Create More Joy!

We can all simplify, even during holiday time.  When it all feels too hectic, step back, take a good look, a deep breath and dial it back.  Sometimes if we can take away just one commitment or something that was imposed upon us, it feels like a load has been lifted from our shoulders.

But here is the challenge, when we take away; we have to replace it with something for ourselves.  If we are overwhelmed, and we are, otherwise we would not feel the need to get rid of something, then we need to allow ourselves some TLC stat.  Be it ten or thirty minutes, a warm candle lit bath, express pedicure, a phone call to a friend, make the time for it, everyone benefits!  Try doing this weekly or even daily, before the panic of overload sets in.  It is our time; we choose how to manage it.

My go-to-destresser is usually a bath.  It doesn’t have to be long, it’s super convenient, takes virtually no planning and the outcome is always as expected-more relaxed in body, mind and soul.  During winter, I like to use special essential oil bath blends that evoke a holiday feel; it’s just one more way to bring more joy to me and my senses.

One that I like very much is made with essential oils of frankincense, lavender, tangerine and fir needle.  I use a four-ounce glass bottle, fill it ¾ full with a light organic cold pressed oil and add 10 drops lavender, 5 drops frankincense, 10 drops tangerine, 10 drops fir needle and ½ tsp vitamin E, shake it up.  I like a light aroma; you could increase the essential oils if you like.   Frankincense helps to center the mind & calm the spirit, lavender promotes relaxation and aides stress, tangerine promotes tranquility and a sense of well being, fir needle is uplifting, warm & calming.

If you prefer floral scented baths, another winter favorite is simply done by adding 20 drops tangerine and 15 drops Ylang Ylang essential oils, this is for a four-ounce bottle, as explained above.

Ylang Ylang is known for its exotic sultry jasmine-like aroma, blending it with tangerine adds a touch of winter citrus.  This beautiful pairing of scents is well suited for a nurturing bath that restores balance; promotes calmness & tranquility and evokes a sense of well being.

To use, pour a few capfuls into a warm water bath, relax and enjoy!
