Question about help for chapped lips

Q:

“I have very flaky/peely and sensitive lips. My dermatologist has recommended Eucrin Aquaphor. As this product is mostly petroleum based, I would prefer not to use this. Do you have any recommendations for natural products or recipes? I have a homemade Chapstick already but it tends to being about a reaction occasionally as well. Help!”

A:

Dear Elise,

It sounds too simple to be true, but raw honey alone will heal your lip sensitivity (I would also add it to coconut oil and/or shea butter, as it will make it thicker so that it stays on better.). I also use an exfoliator to keep my lips from drying out. Add some raw sugar to the honey and rub off the dead skin, then apply a touch of plain honey for gloss.

Of course with all of the outstanding all-natural lip products that are available nowadays, as well as the easy DIY recipes, there are many other options that will be effective and fun. You’ll find many great options right here at the ANB. Look for products that contain the ingredients mentioned here. Also, make sure to drink plenty of water daily. Hydration is also key to preventing dry lips.”
